Recently OpenAI announced an AI model/system they had recently developed won a gold medal at the IMO. The IMO is a very difficult exam, and only the best high schoolers in the world even qualify, let alone win gold. Those who do often go on to cutting edge mathematical research, like Terence Tao, who won the Fields medal in 2006. It has also been rumored that DeepMind achieved the same result with a yet to be released model. Now, success in a tough math exam isn't "automating all human labor" but it is certainly a benchmark many thought AI would not achieve easily. Even so, many are claiming it isn't really a big deal, and that humans will still be far smarter than AI's for the foreseeable future. My question is, if you are in the aforementioned camp, what would it take you to adopt a frame of mind roughly analogous to "It is realistic that AI systems will become smarter than humans, and could automate all human labor and cognitive outputs within a single-digit number of years". Would it require seeing a humanoid robot perform some difficult task? (the Metaculus definition of AGI requires that a robot be able to satisfactorily assemble a (or the equivalent of a) circa-2021 Ferrari 312 T4 1:8 scale automobile model.). Would it involve a Turing test of sufficient rigor? I'm curious what people's personal definition of "ok this is really real" is.

I built this out of frustration as I lead the development of AI features at Yola.com. Prompt testing should be simple and straightforward. All I wanted was a simple way to test prompts with variables and jinja2 templates across different models, ideally somthing I could open during a call, run few tests, and share results with my team. But every tool I tried hit me with a clunky UI, required login and API keys, or forced a lengthy setup process. And that's not all. Then came the pricing. The last quote I got for one of the tools on the market was $6,000/year for a team of 16 people in a use-it-or-loose-it way. For a tool we use maybe 2–3 times per sprint. That’s just ridiculous! IMO, it should be something more like JSFiddle. A simple prompt playground that does not require you to signup, does not require API keys, and let's experiment instantly, i.e. you just enter a browser URL and start working. Like JSFiddle has. And mainly, something that costs me nothing if I'm or my team is not using it. Eventually I gave up looking for solution and decided to build it by myself. I have a large collection of music files gathered over the years, so I was sorely missing a decent offline music player that can serve as a frontend for the collection. I tried several Mac apps over the years, but since streaming music is mainstream now, there aren't good offline music players that meet my needs. So I spent the last 3 months building Petrichor! The idea is to solve my problem and learn Swift UI development along the way, while giving back to the community with this open-source project! Here's a list of features it has, with more getting added in future; - Everything you'd expect from an offline music player! - Map your music folders and browse your library in an organised view. - Create playlists and manage the play queue interactively. - Browse music using folder view when needed. - Pin anything (almost!) to the sidebar for quick access to your favourite music. - Navigate easily: right-click a track to go to its album, artist, year, etc. - Native macOS integration with menubar and dock playback controls, plus dark mode support. - Search quickly through large libraries containing thousands of songs. The app is still in alpha, so things may look unpolished, but I've been testing the alpha builds for the past few weeks and fixing issues as I find them for v1 release.
